Keeping Bosnia Connected Tackling Cell Tower Inspections with Laser Scanning

GBM Group, a Sarajevo-based surveying and engineering firm in Bosnia and Herzegovina, used Trimble 3D laser scanning technology to take on a new challenge: inspecting hard-to-reach cell towers across the country. With the Trimble X7 3D laser scanner, Trimble RealWorks, Trimble Perspective, and a Trimble R10 GNSS rover, the team needed a faster, safer way to collect detailed structural data from towers often located on hills or in forests.

Trimble’s solution enabled GBM Group to complete tower setups and data capture in about 30 minutes per site, improve field verification, and deliver accurate point clouds for condition assessments. The results included safer and more efficient inspections, reduced time and cost, better access to hazardous areas, and stronger customer confidence—leading to an immediate follow-on project to scan about 60 more towers after the first phase of roughly 70 towers.
