Irish Rail Implements Remote Diagnostic System

Irish Rail faced rising maintenance costs, reduced operational efficiency and limited access to onboard data across its Hyundai DMU 22000 fleet, which required manual mileage counting and inspections. After issuing an RFI and running a public procurement process, the operator sought a real‑time diagnostic system to automate data extraction and streamline maintenance and operations.

Trimble’s R2M solution—shore‑based software paired with on‑train equipment and on‑board NCU—was implemented in three phases over nine months, on time and on budget, and engineers were trained to use the data. The system delivers real‑time fault alerts, condition‑based maintenance, and configurable daily reports (e.g., air‑conditioning), reducing inspections and man‑hours, cutting maintenance costs, improving reliability and incident recovery, and is being rolled out to additional fleets.
