A Trimble Case Study
Integrated Scanning Solutions (ISS), based in North and South Carolina, uses ground-penetrating radar and other technologies to locate buried utilities for construction projects. The core challenge is giving contractors clear, reliable maps of underground assets—necessary to prevent damage, safety incidents and costly delays—yet few service providers deliver quality, easy-to-read utility maps that construction managers can use throughout a project.
ISS adopted Trimble TerraFlex, a mobile geospatial data-collection app (on smartphones or a Trimble GeoExplorer) to record points, lines and areas, indicate depth and feature type, and capture geo-referenced photos. Project data are exported as .kmz files for Google Earth, allowing ISS to provide comprehensive utility maps at no extra charge; the solution standardized workflows, improved quality assurance and gave ISS a clear competitive advantage while adding tangible value for clients.
