How precise positioning tools helped build a 3D model of vineyard’s assets and living environment to enhance operations

Icon Spatial, an Australian geospatial services firm, needed a fast and cost-effective way to capture highly accurate location data for a vineyard in rural Victoria to build a reliable digital twin. Using Trimble’s Catalyst DA2 GNSS receiver, along with Trimble TerraFlex and Esri ArcGIS Field Maps, Icon Spatial set out to digitize vineyard assets, support remote monitoring, and test a workflow for future agriculture and construction projects.

Trimble helped Icon Spatial collect survey-grade data across five acres of Longhope Vineyard, including 0.8 acres under vines, with regularly achieved 2-cm accuracy after the initial signal acquisition period. The solution streamlined field capture, mapped infrastructure, established UAV control points, and improved downstream data accuracy; Icon Spatial also reported a 6-hour time savings on this small job alone, with lower equipment costs and strong potential for future projects.
