Case Study: Laing O'Rourke achieves reduced waste and increased certainty with Trimble Connect AR

A Trimble Case Study

Preview of the Laing O'Rourke Case Study

How Laing O’Rourke is using augmented reality for construction through their adoption of Trimble’s Connect AR app

Laing O’Rourke is using digital technology to manage the complex Whiteley redevelopment in central London — a 101,000 m2 project that includes luxury homes, retail and a hotel built behind a retained Grade II façade. The scheme’s top‑down construction method, tight site footprint and mixed stages of fitout and initial construction created heavy multi‑disciplinary interface challenges and a reliance on 2D information that increased uncertainty, rework risk and coordination delays.

To address this, the team adopted Trimble Connect AR (via BuildingPoint UK & Ireland) to place 1:1 3D models on tablets and phones for site teams, clients and contractors. The AR workflows improved QA/QC, enabled rapid verification of installs, resolved sequencing conflicts, boosted engagement from supervisors and operatives, and delivered time savings and greater confidence that the build matches the model — with plans to extend AR checks to reinforcement and precast QA.
