A Trimble Case Study
Survey Group (SG), a Western Australian surveying firm, faced a tight, few‑week window to complete pre‑design surveys across tens of kilometers of mining infrastructure in the remote, harsh Pilbara region. The work demanded thousands of high‑precision scans for new infrastructure alignment amid difficult access, extreme weather and legacy plant dating back to the 1960s.
SG deployed Trimble solutions—primarily the Trimble X7 alongside a TX6, SX10 and Trimble RealWorks software—running scanners in tandem, using battery swaps and in‑field/cloud registration to speed acquisition and processing. The X7’s self‑calibration, automated registration and durability (surviving severe storms) significantly cut field and office time, enabled completion of large scan sets in days, produced accurate 3D models for design, and paid for itself through faster delivery and improved productivity.
