Giant Eagle, a $8.9 billion food retailer and distributor operating corporate and independent stores across four states, needed a technology upgrade to make its large private fleet more efficient. Leadership sought a paperless, real-time system that could share information across business units and measure key performance indicators to drive smarter decisions for roughly 232 power units and about 700 trailers.

Giant Eagle implemented TMW.Suite (a fully integrated TMS) and a Trimble web-based performance-monitoring application, established “perfect delivery” benchmarks, and automated KPI tracking (idle time, dock/delivery wait, on-time %, accidents/speeding, cases shipped). The program delivered a 25% reduction in idle time—lowering fuel costs—and an 8% decrease in deadhead miles, improving productivity and reducing expenses.
