A Trimble Case Study
McCallum Bros Ltd, which dredges sand and chert and transports it by barge to the Port of Auckland, faced a critical operational challenge: the barge ran on an extremely tight cycle and inefficient truck loading (operators were counting buckets) often produced over- or under-loaded trucks. Overloads risked fines and manual unloading, while under-loading added one or two extra trips and 20–40 minutes to the vessel discharge, harming productivity.
The company installed the LOADRITE X-2350 excavator scales to weigh loads on the go and guide operators to the 29‑tonne target, eliminating guesswork and ensuring each truck was correctly filled. The system cut barge discharge time by about 5–10%, removed extra trips (saving fuel, labour and wear), prevented fines, and provided material programming and printable dockets—delivering reliable productivity gains and measurable cost savings.
