A Trimble Case Study
Service Transport Co. (STC), a Houston-based carrier of petroleum, petrochemicals and waste liquids with about 300 tractors and 425 trailers serving 500+ customers, needed to improve fleet safety and DOT compliance while better leveraging its existing mobile communications. Although PeopleNet driver terminals were installed in 2002, electronic driver logs were underused and met with driver resistance, so STC faced the challenge of rolling out eDriver Logs without disrupting operations or losing drivers.
STC implemented a phased, 18-month rollout of PeopleNet eDriver Logs plus Vehicle Management, Reporting and In‑Cab Navigation, combining one-on-one and group training and a gradual transition from paper logs. The program cut auditing and paper costs by roughly $25–30K annually, gave drivers an extra 2–3 hours of paid drive time per week, supported a smooth DOT audit, reduced out‑of‑route miles, improved fuel efficiency and safety through performance data, and established a data-driven driver reward program.
