A Trimble Case Study
Ground Developments (GDL), a leading civil engineering and earthworks contractor in Scotland, was appointed by Barhale Construction to deliver specialist geotechnical and remediation works for Scottish Water’s Cowdenbeath Wetlands Project. Facing technically challenging ground conditions, evolving designs and a need to boost efficiency and accuracy, GDL partnered with SITECH and Trimble to modernize its data and machine-control workflow.
GDL deployed Trimble’s GCS900 3D grade control, Business Center - HCE (including Data Prep and Takeoff modules), SPS852 base, SPS882 rovers, TSC3 controllers and SPS930 total station to convert 2D CAD into 3D models, streamline data prep, push updates to machines and produce accurate quantity takeoffs. The approach saved roughly one day of office work per week, raised plant efficiency by over 5%, improved forecasting and QA, and delivered about a 10% uplift in project profit while helping complete the works on time.
