A Trimble Case Study
Dundrum Excavation, a Brisbane-based civil contractor, was hired to remove 13,000 m³ of gravel from a live RAAF runway (500 × 45 m) to depths of 700 mm with tight tolerances of +0/−10 mm — all while jets continued to operate and the runway had to be returned within six days. The job demanded rapid, precise excavation under challenging noise, heat and safety conditions.
SITECH Construction Systems supplied and installed two Trimble GCSFlex 2D grade-control systems and a Spectra Precision GL512 laser, trained operators on site, and supported grade checking with a grader and total station. With the fast-to-deploy system and onsite support, Dundrum moved about 2,500 m³/day, met the six-day deadline without overtime, and achieved the required accuracy.
