A Trimble Case Study
Power Design is a national design‑build contractor headquartered in St. Petersburg, FL, operating in 23 states on roughly 300 active projects across electrical, mechanical, plumbing and systems trades. Although the company is tech‑forward, its traditional layout workflow relied on robotic total stations, tablets and 2D models—requiring repeated back‑and‑forth between screens and the field, slowing layout and making it harder for crews to relate model data to the physical site.
Power Design piloted Trimble FieldLink MR on the XR10 with HoloLens 2, integrating total‑station‑derived points and BIM data into a hardhat‑mounted mixed reality view. FieldLink MR pinned the 3D model to the physical world, let users navigate directly to layout points, toggle model layers, and lay out elements by sight and reach—streamlining steps, improving on‑site decision‑making and accuracy, and proving valuable as both a layout and training tool; the team reported results that exceeded expectations and plans to adopt the system more widely.
