A Trimble Case Study
Crossfire, a Colorado-based oil and gas field services and civil contractor working across the Western U.S., was hired in 2013 to excavate and prepare a 120,000 sq ft Walmart site in Pagosa Springs. The project required moving 70,000 cubic yards of material, installing utility lines and manholes, and achieving subgrade tolerances of +/-0.1 ft and critical drainage slopes—tasks made more challenging by tight schedules and safety risks for crews working near deep excavations.
Crossfire implemented Trimble Business Center - HCE, Trimble GCS900 and Cat AccuGrade 3D machine control, using GNSS-enabled excavators and graders and stakeless, model-driven workflows shared via Trimble Connected Community. In under six months they hit grade on the first pass with zero rework, met +/-0.1 ft tolerances and 2% slope requirements, boosted productivity (≥25% on the Walmart job, ~300% on a subsequent college build), cut survey costs by 90% and kept surveyors out of hazardous areas, improving safety and compliance.
