Colorado-Based Solar Installers Technology Shift Delivers Full Site Benefits

New Energy Structures Company (NESCO), a Colorado-based commercial solar contractor, needed better tolerances and greater efficiency on solar field construction projects amid a tight labor market. To test a more accurate workflow, NESCO worked with Trimble and used the Trimble Groundworks Machine Control System along with Trimble Business Center on a major Westminster, Colorado solar installation.

Trimble’s solution let NESCO drive piles without stakes using RTK-guided machine control and office-created pile plans, improving alignment, depth control, and reporting. The results included 95% post accuracy, less than 2% misalignment, and about 50% labor efficiency, with five workers doing the work of 10 and more than 80 hours saved on post quality control; Trimble also helped NESCO improve transparency through automated logs and end-of-day reports.
