A Trimble Case Study
CGC Dredging, a Western Australia–based specialist in mine tailings and marine dredging, was contracted to clear seagrass, remove accumulated sediment and prepare the seafloor for a redesigned seawall at Port Geographe. Working to a tight six‑month dredging window and strict depth specifications, the team needed highly accurate hydrographic surveys and cutter‑head positioning while avoiding costly over‑ or under‑dredging and expensive multi‑beam equipment.
Working with SITECH Western Australia, CGC deployed Trimble HYDROpro software with SPS461/SPS855 GNSS receivers, GCS900 machine control, a Site Tablet and a single‑beam echo sounder, plus remote support for the onboard operator. The system produced a rapid pre‑dredge survey and real‑time guidance, delivering ~2 cm survey accuracy and ~10 cm cutter‑head positioning, eliminating the need for multi‑beam scanning, minimizing rework, meeting design depths on the first pass and saving time and cost.
