Caruna Responds to the Increasing Reliability Demand

Caruna, Finland’s largest electric utility with about 540,000 customers and nearly 79,000 km of network, needed to make its grid more weather‑resilient as extreme storms and tighter outage limits put pressure on continuity of supply. The company already invests over EUR 100 million annually but sought more efficient, prioritized investments—such as undergrounding lines in forested rural areas, intensified vegetation management and increased automation—to reduce outage impacts and speed repairs.

To support these goals Caruna deployed Trimble NIS and a Trimble investment‑management application as the project’s business information system, rolling the system out across nine areas in eight months and training ~400 staff and contractors. The new tools improved asset‑management processes, enabled faster, data‑driven investment planning and execution, accelerated planned investments and made fault isolation and repair quicker—helping Caruna build a more reliable, weather‑proof network.
