Capitalizing on Flow Monitoring with Trimble Raven Eye

The Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) serves nearly 500,000 people and relies on flow monitoring across 110 sites to allocate costs and guide planning. In Cumming, a small community with very low, slow flows (about 1 inch depth and 1 ft/s velocity), previous non-contact meters failed to deliver the accuracy and consistency WRA needed for billing, inflow/infiltration tracking, and capital planning.

WRA installed a Trimble Raven Eye flow meter with Trimble Unity remote monitoring, plus an ultrasonic level sensor and RU-35 (installed June 8, 2021). WRA validated the readings using a weir plate and inspection workflows; the Raven Eye data closely matched manual measurements, prompting purchase. The solution delivered dependable remote data, reduced site visits and travel time, and increased confidence in operational decisions and community billing.
