A Trimble Case Study
Dillon Consulting, an Ontario-based consulting firm, helped map a new venue for the Halton Mudmoiselle charity mud run on a densely wooded maple farm with thick brush and weak cellular coverage. The team needed a fast, portable mapping solution to lay out trails and obstacles and used the project as a field test of Trimble Catalyst and Esri Collector under difficult conditions.
Field crews paired a lightweight Trimble Catalyst software-defined GNSS receiver with an Android phone running Esri Collector (and compared it to a Trimble Pro 6H/ArcPad setup), collecting 2.7 km of trail and obstacle points. Catalyst delivered centimeter-level accuracy in the challenging environment, was easier to carry through heavy vegetation, and ArcGIS Online maps let organizers finalize and share the race layout in time for the event.
