A Trimble Case Study
CADS Survey, a Western Australian surveying firm, was contracted to deliver structural, mechanical and hydrographic surveys for the 2.1 km Gorgon Jetty — part of Australia’s massive offshore Gorgon LNG development. The team faced ambitious offshore challenges: precise caisson placement and stabilization in moving seas, poor network geometry for total‑station traverses, long‑range alignment so both jetty ends met in the middle, and safe access to measure pipe module ends.
CADS combined GNSS guidance (Trimble SPS855/SPS555H) with HYDROpro visualization, long‑duration static GNSS control tied to the Barrow Island network, Trimble S8 total stations with Long Range FineLock for reciprocal trigonometric heighting, a Trimble FX 3D scanner for pipe ends, and a hydrographic vessel with multibeam and motion reference systems. The result was reliable, real‑time caisson placement and leveling, 1 cm accuracy on long‑range observations, high‑precision pipe models, hydrographic results to about 50 mm, and a successful completion that expanded CADS Survey’s offshore capabilities.
