Bringing Corrections Management into the Next Century

Trimble Mobile Computing Solutions worked with Captain Jerry Negen and the Crow Wing County Jail as they transitioned into a new 280‑bed facility. Facing a threefold increase in inmate population and heavy reliance on manual, paper‑based logs for rounds, headcounts, movements, medication passes and incident records, the team needed a way to capture and share critical task information at the point of contact in real time.

The solution combined RFID technology with Trimble Nomad handheld computers to replace paper forms and logbooks, enabling staff to scan, record and transmit data immediately during rounds and other activities. This modernized corrections workflow improved operational efficiency, sped data entry and reporting, and strengthened documentation and accountability for daily jail operations.
