A Trimble Case Study
Le FabShop, preparing to open Le FabClub (a makerspace) in Paris, faced the challenge of redeveloping a 700+ m² commercial property that had been unused for years. The building had outdated electrical, plumbing and accessibility issues and no up‑to‑date as‑built records, making manual measurements slow, unreliable and impractical for an informed renovation plan.
Le FabShop and MARO Architectes used the Trimble TX8 3D laser scanner with Trimble RealWorks and SketchUp to capture precise as‑built data—35 scans completed in under two hours (30 indoor two‑minute scans and five three‑minute facade scans) with <2 mm accuracy. The high‑resolution point clouds were automatically registered and imported into SketchUp for modeling and validated with RealWorks 3D Inspection, enabling rapid space optimization, regulatory compliance checks and a trusted, implementable renovation design.
