A Trimble Case Study
Geomatikk Survey, a Norwegian surveying firm, was hired by BKK Enotek to measure and adjust the sag of a newly installed 450‑m section of four power lines in the steep mountains of Leikanger. The precipitous terrain and long span made traditional survey methods impractical; the team needed accurate, field‑based measurements to verify and correct sag for cables about 25 m above ground (required sag 6.26 m below the chord).
Using a Trimble SX10 scanning total station, Trimble R10 GNSS and Trimble Business Center, the crew discovered the SX10 could lock onto the cables without a prism and guided field crews to adjust tension in real time. Two 10‑minute scans (26,600 pts/s) plus one day of office processing delivered 3 cm accuracy, cut the task from several days to one, corrected lines that were 1.5–2.0 m out of tolerance, and won repeat work.
