A Trimble Case Study
Fyfe Pty Ltd., an Adelaide‑based surveying and engineering consultancy, faced the challenge of delivering centimeter‑level GNSS positioning across South Australia’s vast, sparsely populated regions where real‑time GNSS reference networks are limited. Relying on static control plus multiple RTK bases was time‑consuming and costly, yet precise positions were essential for improving the state’s digital cadastral database and supporting planning and mapping.
Fyfe tested Trimble CenterPoint RTX with Trimble R10 receivers as a one‑person, one‑receiver real‑time solution, comparing results to conventional static surveys. Convergence typically took 10–15 minutes (shorter with Quick Start), and results were strong: over 30% of real‑time measurements matched static positions within 2 cm, 73% within 5 cm, and all but a few canopy‑affected outliers were within 0.5 m—delivering significant time and cost savings and reliable few‑centimeter positioning in remote areas.
