A Science Hall of the Future by ShoffnerKalthoff Mechanical Electrical Service

ShoffnerKalthoff Mechanical Electrical Service was tasked with designing, prefabricating, and installing HVAC and plumbing for the University of Tennessee’s new eight‑story Strong Hall science building on a nine‑month schedule. With no on‑site material storage and a complex mix of mechanical systems, every component had to be built to exact measurements so prefabricated assemblies would fit and install immediately.

To meet this need they moved from a CAD‑based BIM platform to Trimble SysQue with Revit, enabling LOD 400 modeling, piping and plumbing spooling, and a streamlined BIM‑to‑prefab workflow. The change reduced field labor hours, increased productivity, improved the design‑to‑construction process, and allowed the team to deliver the project successfully.
