A Matter of Large-Scale Conformance - Inside One Contractor’s Fully Digital, Vehicle-Based Bulk Earthworks Program

ACCIONA, working with CPB Contractors on the Western Sydney Airport Bulk Earthworks Project, faced the challenge of maintaining high earthwork production while meeting strict lot closure and conformance requirements across a massive, highly variable site. With up to 270 machines on the job and multiple design updates per day, ACCIONA needed a faster, safer way to track material movement, thickness, density, moisture, and traceability without relying on spreadsheets, USB drives, or constant field measurements.

Trimble implemented a cloud-based, near-real-time digital workflow using Trimble Earthworks, GCS900, CCS900, Siteworks, WorksManager, and WorksOS. The solution gave field crews live model updates, enabled machine-generated as-built data and conformance checks, and removed much of the need for physical stakes and on-site surveying. The result was improved productivity, better safety, stronger quality control, and full material accountability, with the team able to handle up to 10 design updates a day while keeping every fill slice tracked and every lot verified.
