Just in time - Light steel frame technology for speed and efficiency

Intelligent Steel, formerly known as Icarus LSF, needed a fast, flexible construction approach for the 280+ unit Vita Student Westgate project in central Newcastle, where tight site constraints, ongoing road access, and a strict delivery timeline made traditional methods impractical. The company used Trimble’s Tekla Structures to model the off-site light steel frame design and connections in one coordinated model.

Trimble’s Tekla Structures, combined with a Howick extension for direct machine export, helped Intelligent Steel move from model to fabrication quickly and accurately. The solution enabled lean production, reduced waste, improved build precision, and sped up construction by allowing early access for first-fix work while the building continued to go up.
