Case Study: Aibel achieves faster, more efficient digital fabrication with Trimble Tekla software

A Trimble Case Study

Preview of the Aibel Case Study

Transforming the construction of North Sea oil platforms

Aibel, a Norwegian offshore constructor serving the oil, gas and offshore wind industries, faced pressure to improve efficiency and stay competitive amid oil-price volatility while designing and manufacturing complex North Sea oil platforms, including the Johan Sverdrup project. To meet a goal of reducing engineering time by up to 30%, Aibel turned to Trimble’s Tekla software and model-sharing capabilities to improve documentation and collaboration across its teams in Norway, Singapore and Thailand.

Trimble helped Aibel implement a more digital fabrication workflow by integrating Tekla with existing design tools and robotic cutting machines, enabling semi-automated drawing production and fabrication-ready 3D models. The results included efficiency gains of up to 95% in manufacturing and quality assurance, improved accuracy in robot-guided cutting, and safer yards with less manual lifting and cutting.
