Case Study: YIT Construction Ltd. achieves efficient BIM collaboration and cost savings with Trimble

Tripla BIM from laser scanning to structures and virtual presentation of offices

YIT Construction Ltd. faced major challenges on the Tripla project in Central Pasila, one of Finland’s largest construction sites, where work had to continue around heavy railway traffic, tight safety requirements, and a complex mix of stations, shops, apartments, offices, and a hotel. To manage this, YIT used Trimble’s Tekla-based BIM workflows, including laser scanning, open BIM collaboration, and 3D modeling to coordinate the old station structures with new construction.

Trimble’s solution helped YIT create accurate inventory models, detect clashes early, plan logistics and procurement more precisely, and share real-time model updates across nearly 100 information models. The project team also used VR presentations to show office spaces to tenants, reducing the need for external visualizations. As a result, Trimble helped YIT save time and costs, improve coordination, and make it easier to estimate quantities, schedule work, and understand the final outcome.
