A Trimble Case Study
Yongnam Engineering and Construction faced the challenge of detailing and fabricating the complex steel skeleton for Singapore’s ArtScience Museum, a landmark with unusual curved geometry and many nonstandard parts. Working with Trimble’s Tekla BIM software, Yongnam had to translate the architects’ wire-frame and 3D models into accurate workshop drawings for fabrication and assembly.
Trimble’s Tekla software enabled Yongnam to create workshop, erection, and orientation drawings for about 5,000 steel parts, helping ensure precise fit-up on site. According to Yongnam, the process was dramatically faster with Tekla, reducing drawing time by as much as fivefold, and the full design-and-fabrication effort was completed in about two years, contributing to the museum’s successful opening in 2011.
