Connecting communities and BIM data on the Stockingfield Footbridge, with Tekla

SH Structures was responsible for modeling, fabricating, supplying, and assembling major bridge components for the Stockingfield Footbridge in Glasgow, a complex twin-span cable-stayed structure designed to reconnect three communities. The project’s challenges included intricate geometry, tight tolerances, congested site conditions, and the need to maintain clearance, ramp slopes, and alignment across the canal junction. SH Structures used Trimble’s Tekla Structures along with Trimble hardware to deliver the work.

Trimble helped SH Structures generate accurate 3D models, export IFC data to the Trimble SX10 for precise site setting out, and use live model overlays for verification during assembly and cable tensioning. Tekla Model Sharing and Trimble Connect enabled remote collaboration across teams during the pandemic and kept design work moving without interruption. The project was completed successfully, and SH Structures’ work on the bridge won Infrastructure Project in the 2022 UK Tekla Awards.
