Case Study: Acciona achieves BIM-driven infrastructure delivery with Trimble Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect

BIM transforms E6 highway in Norway

ACCIONA, working with Ramboll on Norway’s E6 highway expansion, faced a highly complex infrastructure project that required detailed BIM models from the earliest design stages. The team needed to coordinate bridges, tunnels, overpasses, and thousands of structural elements while managing frequent design changes and ensuring the models were detailed enough for fabrication and construction. Trimble tools, including Tekla Structures, were used to support this BIM-driven workflow.

Trimble helped ACCIONA and Ramboll model more than 23,000 concrete and steel elements, including 650 bolt groups and over 6,000 welded connections, to BIM LOD 400. Using Trimble Quadri BIM, Tekla Model Sharing, and Trimble Connect, the teams collaborated in a shared cloud environment, reduced overlap and rework, and kept documentation accurate and traceable. The project was recognized with “Special Recognition” in the Tekla 2022 Global BIM Awards, highlighting how Trimble enabled the models to function as live data throughout the project.
