Case Study: SRV Rakennus achieves precise coordination and complex project delivery with Trimble BIM solutions

BIM helps to transform Finland’s city of Tampere

SRV Rakennus, the main contractor for the Tampere Deck and Arena project in Finland, faced major engineering and coordination challenges while building a large mixed-use development above active railway lines. The complex design included an elevated deck, an irregularly shaped arena, towers, and underground facilities, all requiring precise planning for hundreds of pillars, steel components, and tightly scheduled subcontractor work. The team used Trimble’s Tekla Structures and BIM tools to manage the project’s complexity.

Trimble helped SRV Rakennus coordinate more than 500 BIM models, sequence work, and track real-time task status with color-coded shared models. This enabled accurate fabrication and delivery planning, centimeter-level coordination for elements like the arena’s media cube, and smoother collaboration across 400 subcontractors. The result was a successfully delivered landmark project, with BIM proving essential to solving design and construction challenges that would have been impossible to manage with 2D methods alone.
