A Trimble Case Study
AFRY, a consulting group in the Nordic region, needed a faster and more reliable way to find the best road alignment for the Road 77 project for the Swedish Transport Administration. Traditional planning methods were time-consuming and often considered only a few options, making it difficult to account for terrain, cultural sites, waterways, buildings, and cost constraints. AFRY used Trimble’s Quantm alignment planning system to tackle this challenge.
Trimble helped AFRY evaluate 100 automatically generated road alignment alternatives, optimize the best option, and then transfer it into Novapoint for detailed design. The result was an optimized road line developed in about 10 hours instead of months, with significantly improved decision-making and quality assurance. AFRY also reported potential construction savings of millions, with the cheapest option calculated at SEK 89 million and much faster cost analysis across all alternatives.
