How BIM data brought Helsinki Airport into the future

Finavia, Finland’s national airport company, set out to expand and modernize Helsinki Airport while keeping the terminal fully operational. To manage the complexity of the one-billion-euro program, Finavia worked with Trimble using Tekla Structures and BIM-based collaboration tools to plan, coordinate, and manage the project from design through construction.

Trimble’s solution helped more than 200 designers across eight organizations create over 400 digital models, detect clashes, coordinate deliveries, and support stakeholder communication and simulations. The result was a smoother, safer build that stayed on schedule, delivered a terminal 30% more energy-efficient than required, and contributed to the airport’s BREEAM sustainability certification.
