Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) chasing new highs in India

WSP Finland, the principal designer for India’s Chenab Bridge project, faced the challenge of delivering a highly complex railway bridge in difficult Himalayan terrain while meeting strict standards, coordinating multiple parties, and ensuring accurate design and construction data. The project required robust 3D modeling and efficient collaboration, and WSP used Trimble’s Tekla Structures to support the work.

Trimble’s Tekla Structures enabled WSP to create a detailed BIM model for design, clash checking, logistics planning, fabrication, erection sequencing, and quality control. The model also produced material take-offs, assembly dimensions, and lifting data, helping improve efficiency and reduce rework; the bridge was ultimately delivered with reliable, model-based coordination for one of the world’s tallest and longest-spanning railway bridges.
