Blominmäki wastewater treatment plant: BIM based project communications with Trimble Connect and Tekla Model Sharing

AFRY was involved in the Blominmäki Wastewater Treatment Plant project in Espoo, Finland, where a complex underground, multi-material facility had to be designed and coordinated under a tight schedule. The team needed to manage large volumes of BIM data, coordinate multiple disciplines and companies, and fit six wastewater treatment lines into an irregular rock excavation, using Trimble tools such as Tekla Model Sharing and Trimble Connect.

Trimble’s collaboration platforms enabled AFRY, YIT, Parma and other project partners to work in a shared 3D model with about 35 gigabits of design data and around 100 users across five companies. The solution improved clash detection, budgeting, scheduling and production planning, while supporting remote and mobile access; AFRY said that without Tekla Model Sharing, project management would have been almost impossible.
