Model-based approach from day one on the expansion of the Norwegian E16 road

Marthinsen & Duvholt, working on the Bjørum-Skaret section of Norway’s E16 expansion, faced the challenge of coordinating a complex road, tunnel, and bridge project from day one while keeping designers, contractor teams, and the client aligned. The project used Trimble’s BIM solutions, including Trimble Connect, Quadri, Tekla, and Novapoint, to support a model-based workflow across planning, design, and construction.

Trimble enabled a shared, continuously updated coordination model that improved communication, logistics, and quantity control, while making changes easier to implement and visualize in the field with tools like SiteVision. The result was earlier issue detection, faster redesigns, better cost control, and higher quality; for example, one bridge remodel took a day instead of roughly 200 hours in the old way, and concrete on the first bridge stayed within 1.6 m3 of 1,670 m3 total.
