A Trimble Case Study
Midland Steel, a UK and Ireland rebar fabricator, needed a better way to turn 2D engineering drawings into accurate, constructible models while reducing risk, delays, and costly errors. Using Trimble’s Tekla Structures and Tekla BIMsight, the company wanted to improve collaboration across contractors, engineers, and its own fabrication teams.
Trimble’s Tekla software enabled Midland Steel to model rebar in 3D, generate detailed schedules, and send data directly to factory production with no manual re-entry. The results were significant: Midland Steel reported about 20% lower formwork labor cost, 60% better efficiency on-site for rebar fixing, and 25% lower overall costs, with savings of roughly £250,000 to £300,000 on one project.
