Streamlining Pavement Project Reviews Through Visualization Using AgileAssets® Pavement Analyst™

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) needed a better way to review and select pavement projects across its vast network. Working with the University of California Pavement Research Center, Caltrans developed H-Chart to visualize relationships among recommended, programmed, under-construction, and as-built projects; the tool had to be automated, handle large datasets, and integrate with its existing Pavement Management System (PaveM, powered by AgileAssets® Pavement Analyst™).

Caltrans integrated Pavement Analyst with H-Chart, configured data feeds and visual mapping, and optimized H-Chart to process and display large pavement datasets. The result lets engineers view condition, as-built, programmed, and recommended projects in one chart to identify gaps, overlaps, and treatments, speed project reviews, improve prioritization, support field and office use, and aid briefings and public outreach — earning an AXIAM nomination.
