Powering a Winter Automated Reporting System with AgileAssets® Maintenance Manager™

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) needed a way to improve winter snowplow operations across its statewide network—about 12,000 lane miles, 1,700+ bridges and numerous regional offices—while improving data quality, reducing operator input, enhancing management tools and cutting costs. Key challenges included building the system in-house, coordinating multiple third-party vendors, integrating with existing hardware and software, and training staff across many districts.

ITD developed the Winter Automated Reporting System (WARS) via a customized interface with AgileAssets Maintenance Manager, integrating snowplow spreader/plow position/AVL data from Certified Cirus SpreadSmartRx on-board recorders and automating activity, route and work-order generation. The deployment delivered roughly 10% materials savings (~$600,000/year), eliminated about 7,500 operator labor hours annually, reduced equipment costs, improved safety and mobility, and earned an Honorable Mention in the AgileAssets AXIAM awards.
