Inova Health System Eliminating Manual Process through Automated Workflows

Inova Health System, Northern Virginia’s leading not-for-profit healthcare provider with five hospital campuses and 45 locations serving about 1 million patients annually, ran an $850M, six-year capital improvement program at its Fairfax campus. The facilities team relied on spreadsheets and paper files, which caused duplicate data entry, lost documents, slow change-order reviews, costly printing and distribution, limited visibility and accountability, and time-consuming reporting that hindered cost forecasting and timely decisions.

Inova implemented e-Builder’s integrated project management system, standardizing automated workflows, centralizing project data and integrating with its Lawson financial system to enforce processes and improve accountability. The results included cutting payment processing from 29 to 9 days (invoice processing under 3 days), saving roughly $200K in bidding printing costs, freeing the equivalent of a full-time employee for reporting, and delivering approximately $100M in program-wide savings.
