Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Authority - Customer Case Study

The Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA), the regional wastewater facility serving the Des Moines metro and 18 municipalities, needed accurate flow monitoring to inform billing, asset operations, and capital planning. In the small community of Cumming, flows are very low (about 1 inch) and slow (~1 ft/s); two prior non-contact meters failed to deliver the accuracy, quality, and consistency WRA required.

WRA installed a Trimble Raven Eye flow meter with Trimble Unity Remote Monitoring, plus an ultrasonic level sensor and RU-35 on June 8, 2021. WRA validated the sensor with a downstream weir plate and inspection workflows; the Raven Eye data closely matched reference measurements, prompting purchase. The solution now provides reliable remote data, reduces site visits, and improves confidence in billing and planning decisions.
