City of Edmonton, A Growing City Needed A PMIS to Get to the Next Level

The City of Edmonton, facing about 12% growth and nearing a population of one million, launched a strategic expansion of its Light Rail Transit (LRT) program to deliver more than $4 billion in infrastructure. With provincial and federal funding adding complexity, the city needed greater spend clarity and transparency after outgrowing paper-based processes and inconsistent Google Sheets workflows.

In March 2018 Edmonton implemented e-Builder Enterprise city-wide, converting all projects and rolling out mandatory training, branch facilitators, and a monthly super-user group. The PMIS delivered near real-time dashboards, consolidated cost management and forecasting across multiple funding sources, a full audit trail of actions and change orders, and improved efficiency, visibility and accountability—helping the city better control project spending and move toward smarter project delivery.
