A Growing City Needed A PMIS to Get to the Next Level

The City of Edmonton faced a major challenge as it planned for nearly 12% metropolitan growth and approached a population of one million: delivering more than $4 billion in Light Rail Transit (LRT) infrastructure funded by provincial and federal sources. Existing paper-based processes and inconsistent spreadsheet solutions could not provide the transparency, standardization, or real-time spend clarity needed to manage a multi-billion-dollar capital program.

In March 2018 the city rolled out e-Builder Enterprise as an organization-wide PMIS, converting all projects, deploying facilitators and mandatory training, and forming a monthly super-user group. The system delivers dashboard snapshots, a full history of actions and change orders, and centralized cost management and forecasting across multiple funding streams—improving efficiency, visibility, accountability and near-real-time control of project spending.
