Case Study: AES achieves stable BESS grid support with Trimark Associates’ Vantage SCADA

AES deploys 100 MW/400 MWh Luna BESS with Trimark Associates, Inc.

The customer, AES, required a solution to manage power stability challenges, including variable irradiance and curtailment, for a 100 MW AC coupled battery energy storage system (BESS) in Lancaster, CA. To address this, AES engaged vendor Trimark Associates, Inc. to implement their Vantage™ SCADA plant control system.

Trimark Associates, Inc. delivered a solution where their Vantage™ SCADA works in cooperation with the Fluence battery controller to manage the 100 MW/400 MWh BESS. The system receives and executes automated dispatch system (ADS) setpoints from CAISO while simultaneously maintaining required voltage at the point of interconnection to ensure stable power delivery to the grid. This intelligent control supports stable power delivery at the nearby Big Sky substation.
