Trilliant Partners with Manx Utilities to Commence Smart Electricity Meters Roll-out across the Isle of Man

Manx Utilities, the Isle of Man’s statutory multi-utility, needed to replace legacy meters and enable smart grid capabilities across the island to improve customer experience, support prepayment “pay-as-you-go” services, and help meet climate goals. They partnered with Trilliant to deploy an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) platform and smart electricity meters for residential, industrial and commercial customers.

Trilliant implemented a device-agnostic AMI communications network and began replacing legacy meters with smart meters (initially rolling out to 8,000 prepayment customers toward a target of nearly 50,000 connections across the 572 km2 island). The rollout integrates with Manx Utilities’ SmarterLiving app so customers can view usage and top up credit (about 80% of top-ups are now via the app), while Manx Utilities gains outage notifications, consumption insights to fine-tune energy production, and a platform to support future smart-grid services. Trilliant’s solution has improved customer engagement and operational visibility across the island.
