Trilliant and Tenaga Nasional Berhad Collaborate to Drive Accelerated Smart Meter Deployment

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s largest electricity utility, needed to accelerate nationwide smart meter deployment to support its energy transition, improve billing accuracy, enhance forecasting and planning, and strengthen outage management. To address this, TNB extended its partnership with Trilliant in November 2023 to leverage Trilliant’s next-generation AMI network technology, Trilliant Communication Modules embedded in meters, and a five-year maintenance and support agreement.

Trilliant deployed a reliable, device-agnostic AMI network and locally manufactured Communication Modules in every smart meter, enabling high-volume traffic, secure data-driven operations, and advanced applications like time-of-use rates, prepaid metering and demand response. As a result, Trilliant’s solution has improved billing efficiency, enhanced forecasting and outage management at scale—supporting TNB’s service to about 10.6 million customers—while accelerating TNB’s progress toward its sustainability and net‑zero goals.
