The City of Cowansville sought to improve lighting management and efficiency on a phased timeline—keeping functioning sodium lights while preparing for future smart‑city applications. To build a future‑ready backbone, the City partnered with Trilliant to deploy Trilliant’s Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Platform and next‑generation neighbourhood area network (NAN).

Trilliant implemented a standards‑based, high‑bandwidth wireless adaptive mesh NAN so streetlights autonomously report to NAN access points and are polled via cellular backhaul, enabling remote control, real‑time status and proactive maintenance. The Trilliant solution made the system fully scalable—allowing Cowansville to add LEDs and dimming for additional energy savings and to attach sensors and meters—and delivered measurable benefits such as instant failure alerts, remote on/off control, and improved visibility into lamp life and maintenance needs.
