Singapore adopts integrated, IP-based supervisory building control

Changi Airport, a major aviation hub in Singapore, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), faced the challenge of integrating a complex array of multi-vendor building control subsystems across its new and existing terminals. With over 110,000 control points from various manufacturers, they required a reliable, site-wide, and integrated building management solution. To address this, they partnered with vendor Tridium.

Tridium implemented its Niagara Framework, integrated with Cisco's IP networking technology, to create a single, open, and web-based supervisory system. The solution unified all subsystems via a fiber optic backbone, enabling seamless information sharing and guaranteeing high network reliability. A key result was the implementation of a hot-standby functionality where if one terminal's system fails, another can automatically take over within five seconds, ensuring continuous operation.
