Case Study: Manitoba Hydro achieves 65% energy savings with Tridium's NiagaraAX Framework

A Tridium Case Study

Preview of the Manitoba Hydro Case Study

One of the Greenest Buildings in North America Using NiagaraAX Framework®

Manitoba Hydro, a major energy utility, sought to construct a new corporate headquarters, Manitoba Hydro Place, that would serve as a world-class model of energy efficiency and sustainability. Their challenge was to achieve this goal in a building located in Winnipeg, an area known for its extreme climate conditions. To meet this objective, they required an advanced building management system to coordinate the operation of complex energy management systems.

The vendor, Tridium, implemented its NiagaraAX Framework as the centralized energy management infrastructure. This solution integrated and managed over 130 metering points, connecting diverse building systems to optimize performance. The results were exceptional, with the building achieving 65% energy savings, exceeding its initial target. This led to annual operational cost savings of $15 million. The project also earned numerous accolades, including the 2010 ENERGY STAR Participant of the Year award, solidifying Tridium's role in creating one of North America's most energy-efficient office towers.
